EDUCATE  YOUR CONSERVATIVE FRIENDS THAT THERE ARE CERTAIN INSTITUTIONS–SUCH AS PUBLIC UTILITIES–THAT SHOULD BE HELD IN PUBLIC–NOT PRIVATE TRUST.

This is NOT socialism.  This is protection of citizens from corporate greed.  There are plenty of markets left for the capitalists to compete in.  Just keep them the hell our of healthcare insurance, utilties, education k through 12, management of the nation’s infrastructure and prisons.

YES  magazine reports that the city of Fenton California took back control of their water supply from a private industry.

In 2002, when Citizen Utilities, the small company that ran the water system for Fenton, California  was acquired by American Water Works Co. Its subsidiary, California-American Water (Cal-Am), took over Felton’s water utility. American Water was acquired shortly afterward by London-based Thames Water.

In November 2002, Cal-Am proposed a 74 percent rate increase over three years, subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission. Felton residents formed Friends of Locally Owned Water (FLOW), and with legal help from Santa Cruz County, fought the rate increase, which the utilities commission knocked down to 44 percent. But the threat of escalating costs loomed, so FLOW began working on a plan to buy the water system and turn it over to the nearby San Lorenzo Valley Water District (SLVWD), a public utility

Their efforts were successful, and the ballot initiative won with nearly 75 percent of the vote. SLVWD then proposed to buy the water system for $7.6 million, but Cal-Am/RWE refused to sell. So SLVWD pursued eminent domain to force a buyout. Just before the case was to go to jury trial, the company settled with SLVWD. Today, with Felton’s water back in the hands of a public utility, the average resident’s bill has dropped by at least 50 percent. FLOW has calculated that even with the tax increase, most residents are already saving as much as $400 per year

IF WE BELIEVED THE REGURGITATED GLENN BECK NONSENSE FROM THE TEA PARTY PUPPETS, THIS WOULD BE OUR IGNORANT WORLD VIEW.
However the picture would be much more accurate if  heads of people like the Koch brothers, Dick Cheney, and Lloyd Blankfein were sticking out of the horse and the label read “Right-Wing Military Totalitarian Government”.

Tea Party activists are no more than pawns who are manipulated by the insane/ignorant/childish  rhetoric of people like Glenn Beck.  But even Glenn Beck himself is a pawn.  I don’t know if Beck realizes what he is saying is false, or if he really believes it.  It’s a toss-up.  However, I sure that he more than realizes the value of the paycheck that he gets from Fox for his faux reality  show.  The Tea Party people better wake up and start trying to wrap their brains around two salient facts:

1) If the Tea Party people do ever catch on to what is being done to them –that they are dupes who are being fed misinformation, lies, and being manipulated by the very people who intend to eventually enslave them–then it will not be a pretty picture for the front people like Palin, Beck and Limbaugh.  But the real puppeteers with their Madison Avenue/Wall Street bag of tricks like the Koch brothers will escape unscathed.

2) If the Tea Party people don’t ever wake up to reality, and should they create such a ruckus that martial law is enacted and becomes the law of our land and that will be the outcome if they “win.”  Then they will finally get to know the true meaning of a totalitarian society controlled by the wealthy few.

An article in Bloomberg News yesterday reveals that Tea Party Activists don’t even know the meaning of the word socialism and the majority of them want Wall Street reined in.  The do want Medicare.  They do want job creation.  In fact, they do want all the things that they will not get with an extreme right-wing government.

You want to see an extreme right-wing government in action?  Study Augusto Pinochet’s government.  This is what you get when an extremist right-wing bunch of thugs take over.  This is what Glenn Beck is preaching.

March 26 (Bloomberg) — Tea Party activists, who are becoming a force in U.S. politics, want the federal government out of their lives except when it comes to creating jobs.

More than 90 percent of Tea Party backers interviewed in a new Bloomberg National Poll say the U.S. is verging more toward socialism than capitalism, the federal government is trying to control too many aspects of private life and more decisions should be made at the state level.

At the same time, 70 percent of those who sympathize with the Tea Party, which organized protests this week against President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul, want a federal government that fosters job creation.

They also look to the government to rein in Wall Street, with almost half saying the government should do something about executive bonuses. Supporters are also conflicted over whether private-enterprise elements should be introduced into government programs like Social Security and Medicare.MORE
