UPDATE ON GAS EXPLOSION NEAR DALLAS–NO ONE WAS KILLED

The Dallas Morning News confirmed at 7:30 pm June 7, 2010 that no fatalities are confirmed in the Johnson County gas line explosion.

Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford said Monday evening that at least eight went to area hospitals, and four of those have already been released.

Cleburne Fire Chief Clint Ishmael said late Monday afternoon that the only person missing had been operating a digging machine that struck the gas line.

“Something went terribly wrong and they actually did drill into the pipe,” Ishmael said.

Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Jack Snow said the subcontractor digging there is believed to be CH Powerlines, a subcontractor for Brazos Electric.  “It normally would be [marked],” Snow said of the gas line. “How this happened, we do not know. We will have investigators that will be checking into it to find out exactly … If all the steps were followed prior to digging.”
