A DECENT DEMOCRAT SPEAKS UP: FIRE ALAN SIMPSON NOW!

Author: Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) called Alan Simpson’s remarks “offensive, ignorant, and misleading,” Nadler said he wants President Obama to remove him as co-chairman of the White House’s ballyhooed National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, which Obama named the former senator to in February, calling him “a flinty Wyoming truth-teller.”
Simpson lived up to the flinty party recently when he ripped Ashley Carson, the head of the Older Women’s League, in an e-mail to her that described Social Security as “a milk cow with 310 million tits!”
Offended by what he saw as Carson’s wrong-headed take in a Huffington Post article, he signed off: “Call when you get honest work!”
We cannot trust the integrity of any product or recommendations of the commission as long as former Sen. Simpson is the chairman,” Nadler said. “His insulting and outrageous comments reveal his own mistaken belief that Social Security is a) in crisis, b) about to collapse, and c) contributes to the deficit. None of this is true.”“In fact, the Social Security Trust Fund has a $2.5 trillion dollar surplus, and it will be able to pay 100 per cent of benefits through 2037,” Nadler said.
Looks like a few Republican fanatics are waking up

The horribly sexist video that Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann starred in touting how Republican women are so much “hotter” than Democratic Women has apparently been scrubbed from the net. One of my readers reported this morning that he could not find it anywhere. If you thought the Republicans could not get cheesier and more Jerry Springer trashy–well they just did.
Then I read in THE HILL today that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) will not be addressing a protest of the proposed mosque in lower Manhattan on the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
His PR manager tries to claim that Gingrich never agreed to do that. BS. Gingrich agreed and he would still be speaking if he had not been slapped silly by the majority of Americans over his stupid and incendiary remarks about Muslims.
Gingrich’s rants are almost on the same level as US Representative Third U.S. Congressional District Sam Johnson telling people that if he were given a plane that he would bomb Syria off the face of the earth. These people are nuttier than a fruitcake.

Withdrawal of U.S. Combat Troops from Iraq got less than 10 minutes air time on Fox News.
Earlier this week the HUGE historical event for our nation–the night the last American combat brigade left Iraq following a war that started seven years and five months ago got slightly less then 10 minutes coverage on Fox News.
WHY?
I’ll tell you why: It’s because removing all the U.S. combat troops from Iraq before the end of 2010 was a promise that President Obama made to the American people.
The Republican mouthpiece don’t want to remind anyone of any promise that Obama has kept, regardless the historical significance of the event. Yes, Fox New really is that petty. Yes they are the obstructionist Republicans

Maybe the USA will soon follow suit, but I won’t hold my breath.
Will the leadership of our nation ever stop being such cowards and actually do something about the failed “war on drugs” program implemented over 40 years ago by Richard Nixon? This program is a dismal failure. Drug use has increased, not decreased.
WAR ON DRUGS IS A COMPLETE AND UTTER FAILURE. Its punitive approach and some of the ridiculous legislation that it has spawned such as the “three strikes law” have done NOTHING to deter drug use. Now the USA, with 5% of the world’s population has 25% of the world’s population incarcerated. And who you do you think pays the $70 a day that these prisoners (most of whom did not commit crimes against a person)? It’s you and me–Mr. and Ms. taxpayer. And who do you think makes billions from the privatized prison industry? Its the rich Wall Street investors who live and breathe in the Beltway.
We need to seriously study and consider the possibility of legalizing some of these drugs to jerk the black market rug from underneath these criminals.
I heard on the news last night that Tuscon last year confiscated no less than 1.2 million pounds of pot. I don’t know if this is true or not, but you can be sure that they did not confiscate all the pot that passed through the area.
Marijuana is certainly no worse than alcohol or cigarettes in terms of its harm to the human body. It is absurd that marijuana is illegal while we allow alcohol and cigarettes to be sold.
Legalizing marijuana would not be without many benefits for all Americans. It would mean revenue for one thing that we could use to educate people on the harmful effects of marijuana. Yes, like cigarette smoking, marijuana comes with similar hazards. In fact, there are many studies that argue that pot smoking is even worse than cigarette smoking for two reasons: 1) unlike the cigarette smoker, the pot smokers hold the smoke in their lungs for a few seconds before releasing it and 2) Marijuana has a heavier resin than tobacco which can coat the lungs much faster.
In 1955 75% of Americans reported that the smoked cigarettes daily. Today after years of education in our schools and warnings on packs of cigarettes, slightly less than 20% of Americans are still dumb enough to smoke.
We could achieve the same results by legalizing marijuana. In addition, legalization of marijuana would remove a huge layer of criminal activity and the first level of connection to harder drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Today many pot dealers also know and communicate the sources for cocaine and heroin. Some of them even deal the other drugs.

LIES BROUGHT TO US BY REPUBLICANS: Trickle-Down Economy, like WMD’s in Iraq, were always lies–FROM DAY ONE
TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMY
The Roots of “trickle-down” Economy – a joke perpetuated on the majority of Americans–not once but twice: In the 1920’s prior to the great crash of 1929 and from Reagan in the 1980’s until our current economic depression. It is time to stop pretending that this lie to benefit the rich has any merit for 95% of us.
The name appropriately has roots in the ’20s, when humorist Will Rogers coined the term, saying, “The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes it would trickle down to the needy”. Some call it “supply-side” economics to avoid the negative connotation. After the great crash of 1929, until Ronald Reagan was elected president, no other administration in the United States championed supply-side policies. We should return to the wisdom of those who came before Reagan and outlaw even the notion of “trickle down economics”. It is as fictional as is the current ideology of the Republican Party which is largely based on the rantings of a fiction writer named Ayn Rand.
Many fiscal conservatives who support trickle-down economics also tend to support getting rid of the progressive income tax altogether. They propose either a flat tax or a national sales tax (such as the FairTax). In regard to the national sales tax: This is another perfect example of the narrow mindedness of the rich. They can’t see past their rich noses. A national sales tax would unduly burden the poor of our nation. Poor people spend nearly all (and in many cases all) of their expendable income on the necessities of life–food, shelter, utilities, gas to get to work, etc. Thus they would be taxed heavily on items that they need to survive and many of them would be forced to make some hard choices between eating or paying the utility bill. The rich, however, have a large portion of there income that is left over after paying for necessities and is available for investments and luxury items. A national sales tax would put the poor in a hole that most of them would never be able to dig out of but most of the rich are too self-centered to understand this point of view. They seem incapable, or perhaps even unwilling to do so.
WMD’s in Iraq
How many times do Republican politicians have to blatantly lie to the American people in their faces before we stop voting for any Republican?
The American people went to war on based on a lie that the Republican “conservative” Bush Administration deliberately and knowingly told the American public. We are trillions of dollars in debt today because of it and we have lost over 4,000 American lives and wounded 32,000 Americans–ALL BECAUSE OF A LIE THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION KNOWINGLY TOLD AND PROMOTED ABOUT WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.
There were NEVER any WMD’s in Iraq and every single member of Bush’s cabinet knew that and yet every single one of them stood up and lied to the American people telling us that there were. Colin Powell even had the nerve to go before the United Nations and tell their lie there.

If you think that toxic waste from drilling for oil is limited to the Gulf you are wrong.
Anyone who grew up on West Texas with “slush pits” [left over waste from drilling for oil or gas] could tell you that. However, like DDT, we didn’t know back then that slush pits were also toxic.

When Tim and Christine Ruggiero bought their dream home on 10 acres in Decatur six years ago, they imagined their daughter riding horses and taking in the clean country air. The last thing they imagined was that all three of them would end up covered in rashes from being exposed to toxic chemicals such as benzene and arsenic in their own backyard.

The family doesn’t own the mineral rights on their property, and earlier this year, they had no say in the matter when Aruba Petroleum showed up to drill a gas well 300 yards away from their door. The Ruggieros made a decision then to allow Aruba surface use of part of their land, in return for a $30,000 one-time payment. They didn’t understand then what trouble and toxins they were letting themselves in for.
The drilling caused its own problems, but it wasn’t until the company spread muddy drilling waste over several acres of their land that all three of the Ruggieros, at about the same time, began to suffer from similar-looking rashes.
“We get it in different places on our body,” said Tim Ruggiero. “If you look at it, it all looks like the same rash. One of our neighbors has the same rash, and she has it worse than we do.”

Republicans must be pulling their numbers for November from some place where the sun does not shine.
If the majority of Americans wake up, and I think they will, they will come out in droves in November and vote for Democrats and Independents like me who offer real solutions and not more of the same robbery of our nation by the rich.
Democrats give the American people crumbs back from the cake that the American people paid for in the first place, but the Republicans take the entire cake.
It’s not an appealing choice, but a clear one nonetheless that Americans should make in November. If the only choice you have is between a Democrat or a Republican, it is in your best interests 99% of the time to vote Democrat.

If you are a working American, or a retired American who depends on Social Security, you better get to the polls in November and vote for Independents like me and Democrats.
If all registered voters go to the polls in November we will at least keep Democracy on its current life-support system against the wanton plundering by the rich. We outnumber the rich in our nation 95 to 1.
If you are not at least in the upper 5%, you can be certain of two things: 1) you are NOT a member of their club and 2) it is highly likely that you never will be. You have much more in common with the needs of poor whites and blacks than you may realize.

WINNING IN NOVEMBER IS A NUMBERS GAME AND THE DEMOCRATS HAVE THE NUMBERS
44.8 million Republicans are registered to vote and 68.4 million Democrats are registered to vote.
Although it was not always the case, Independent today are evenly split between the two parties.
The Tea Party anarchists take about one-fourth of the Republicans and about 1/3 of Independents who once voted Republican.
The Republican expectation of taking over the House are about as likely as another Virgin birth somewhere in the world despite all the huffing and puffing and churning propaganda machines of extreme right wing multibillionaires such as the Koch brothers and their astro-turf organization called “Americans for Prosperity”.

Nepotism and Sam Johnson

patronage bestowed or favoritism shown on the basis of family relationship, as in business and politics: He was accused of nepotism when his son received a multimillion dollar no-bid government contract.
A Fusion Center is a terrorism prevention and response center that was started as a joint project between the Department of Homeland Security an the US Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs between 2003 and 2007. The fusion centers gather information not only from government sources, but also from their partners in the private sector.
They are designed to promote information sharing at the federal level between agencies such as the CIA, FBI, US Military and Department of Justice as well as state and local level government. As of July 2009, the Department of Homeland Security recognized at least seventy-two fusion centers . Fusion centers may also be affiliated with an Emergency Operations Center that responds in the event of a disaster.
State and local police departments (along with our tax dollars) provide both space and resources for the majority of fusion centers. The analysts working there can be drawn from DHS, local police, or the private sector.
As Bruce Fein, a libertarian, pointed out in April of 2009 in his statement before the subcommittee on intelligence sharing and terrorism risk assessment committee on Homeland Security regarding the Future of Fusion Centers: “The Soviet Union had its KGB. East Germany had its Stasi and the United States should profit by these examples and abandon fusion centers.” By the way if you think that it is just the Republicans who are in on this attack on our First Amendment Rights, you can forget that. President Obama recently approved additional funding for fusion centers.

These centers essentially spy on ordinary Americans. Many of them, like the North Central Texas Fusion System (NCTFS) are run by political operatives who were put in place by politicians like Sam Johnson. Of course, all of this nonsense is paid for by the American taxpayers.
The North Central Texas Fusion System is a story of extraordinary abuse of government taxpayer funds and government power. The person in charge of this center is Dr. Bob Johnson, son of US Rep. Sam Johnson. Up until this September the Collin County Commissioners simply awarded a no-bid contract to manage the center to Johnson’s son. Up until September of 2009, Dr. Bob Johnson and his wife whose two-person company of ADB Consulting which they run out of their home in Santa Fe New Mexico had been awarded $1.3 million dollars worth of the taxpayers money to spy on us to “keep us safe.” One may well wonder who is protecting us from the Johnsons.
Well, Bob Johnson got a little heat from the US House of Representatives in April of 2009 when he wrote and published a “Prevention Awareness Bulletin” (PAB). The PAB was so goofy that it received national attention.
With that national attention, came the revelation that Dr. Bob Johnson is the son of Sam Johnson and that he and his wife had been awarded no-bid contracts from Collin County amounting to over $1.3 million for “managing” the center from their Santa Fe, New Mexico home. With this publicity, Collin County Commissioners then decided it would be wise to send out the management of the fusion center as a competitive bid. But guess who was appointed to write the bid specification? Dr. Bob Johnson. And guess who won the “competitive” bid? Dr. Bob Johnson!
MORE DOG WHISTLE POLITICS FROM FOX NEWS GLENN BECK SARAH PALIN AND THE NRA
If you don’t know what “Dog Whistle Politics” are, then get an education.
If you think that it is any accident that Glenn Beck chose August 28 as the day for his “non-political” , “Restoring the Honor” rally, then you don’t understand dog whistle politics and you don’t realize that August 28th marks the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream speech” which was delivered at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial.
Although Glenn Beck has told attendees that his “Restoring Honor” rally will be a “nonpolitical rally,” it will feature speeches by Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent and is partially sponsored by the National Rifle Association.
The latest edition of the NRA’s magazine First Freedom features a full-page front cover ad for the rally.
In other words, these nuts could not be any more direct than if they suggested outright to the criminally insane that it is ok put put a bullet in Obama’s head.
What a desecration to the honor of a great American such a Martin Luther King to allow these nuts to gather on the very spot where he gave his “I have a Dream” speech 47 years ago.
I hope that thousands of decent Americans rise to the occasion and also attend and drown them out with voices of the majority.

THE HILL REPORTS: “Boehner, who has 11 siblings, said he’s not sure whether the three brothers remain unemployed.
“I’ve got real empathy for those who are unemployed, as most of you know I’ve got 11 brothers and sisters. I know that three of my brothers lost their jobs, I’m not sure whether they’ve found jobs, yet, so I’ve got a lot of empathy for those caught in this economic downturn,” Boehner said. . .” MORE
Boehner, opposes extending unemployment benefits but he thinks that’s OK because he doesn’t think the unemployed are “lazy” as some Republicans do.

Is this guy for real? He is not sure yet whether his brothers are out of work? I’ve got an idea–why doesn’t he pick up the FRIGGING telephone and find out before he opens his pie hole?
If Boehner thinks this is an example of empathy, he needs to go back to the drawing board. Not only is he hurting thousands of Americans with his greediness, he is also hurting his own brothers.
And what does Boehner care? His net worth is slightly over $2 million. He is more interested in protecting his Wall Street portfolio than the American people.
Not only does John Boehner not care, he is probably not even capable of caring.

On October 1, House Minority Leader John Boehner said in a press availability, “I’m still trying to find the first American to talk to who’s in favor of the public option, other than a member of Congress or the administration… I’ve not talked to one, and I get to a lot of places and I’ve not had anyone come up to me — I know I’m inviting it — and lobby for the public option.”
Well, some of Mr. Boehner’s constituents decided to take him up on his offer and rally outside his district office in West Chester, Ohio, delivering over 1,800 signatures of people in his district who support a public option. MORE
